I just purchased an iPhone programming manual from Apress, which is just a password-protected PDF. The big publishers will likely dig in, but there are alternatives, including good old paperbacks (intuitive user interface, excellent battery life)... I share your antipathy for it. And while I enjoy reading books on my iPhone, I restrict myself to the free books offered through the Stanza reader, on account of the double whammy of DRM and exorbitant pricing where new books are concerned. I could possibly justify to myself one or the other, but not both. If you hear of a reasonable retail model for ebooks, please announce it here.
